The Not So Big Life Workshop

The next Not So Big Life Workshop, hosted by Duke Integrative Medicine, will take place September 2 – 4, 2021, online via Zoom.

This workshop is open to everyone, and will be an introduction to what Not So Big Living is all about. By the end, participants will be newly equipped with a set of tools to help them live more fully in each moment of their lives, without having to make any major changes to the outer appearance of what they do each day.

The Online Format

After the success of the online workshops over the last year, and with the pandemic outcome still uncertain, we have decided to hold this workshop virtually again this year.

As before, I will be conducting the workshop in much the same way as my in-person workshops, capping registration at a reasonable number, and requiring your attendance and promptness for participation. For those attendees who have never used Zoom before, we will provide some tutorial material prior to the workshop.

If you find yourself projecting that this experience will be “less” than if we were meeting in person, I encourage you to read my blog post about our virtual retreat to get a sense of the sometimes surprising benefits of using Zoom in this way.

About the Workshop

Have you ever wondered if there’s more to life than meets the eye, or suspected that you’re missing a big part of it? Ever felt like a human “doing” rather than a human “being?” I offer guidance in this introductory level workshop to help you identify what’s in the way of living your full potential – right here, right now.

What most people need is a life ‘remodeling,’ and that’s what this workshop aims to give participants. You see, a Not So Big Life is a life lived wide awake in everything you do, but in order for this to happen, you have to learn what is getting in the way and keeping you asleep. Most of us assume we are already wide awake, but I assure you, we are under a misconception–when we wake up to what’s really here, we see that there’s much, much more beyond what we think of as “normal life.”

There’s a vibrancy to living in the present moment, and once you’ve tasted it, there’s no turning back. It’s like learning to see in color when all you’ve ever seen before is black and white.

We’ll look first at how you’ve created the idea of yourself. You’ll learn that the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs you have about yourself are not who you are, but instead are limitations to your living your full potential. Then we’ll investigate what keeps those beliefs in place, and I’ll give you some tools to create some space between all those ideas and who you truly are. I’ll also show you how to use every event and interaction in your life as a kind of spiritual nutrient to help you grow into more of your full potential.

If you have attended a Not So Big Life Workshop in the past and you’d like a refresher, I encourage you to come to this year’s workshop. No two workshops are exactly alike, and the material takes time to really sink in and transform your life, so practice and repeated exposure to the concepts are enormously valuable.
