Fifteen years ago, I teamed up with building scientist Steve Easley and custom homebuilder Paul Trudeau to build and present the Home by Design Showhouse at the 2004 International Builders Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. A full-scale, fully finished home, the Home By Design Showhouse brought the principles in my fourth book, Home By Design, to life, and demonstrated a new way of thinking about design, from the principles used to tailor home design to our lives, to the manner in which it was built, to the products and systems it engaged.
In Home By Design, I give readers a set of “tools”–key principles to using Space, Light, and Order–to help them understand, and create, that illusive sense of home we all crave. For those who weren’t able to attend the Builders Show and tour the house in person to see these principles at work, we created this 3D walkthrough. It is still a great exemplification of my principles, so I hope you enjoy it.
(Note: for the purposes of keeping the tour under five minutes long, the producers sped up my voice a tad, which gives it an exciting, though slightly frantic, clip. Hold on to your hats!)
